Marksman on target.
The hype surrounding Yggdrasil's dream run this season was on full display in the Knockout Round of the National Regional Group C finals.
GOLDEN ST was said to have the decisive keys to victory. A stronger inside defense then Yggdrasil, better rebounding, better playmaking and supposedly a better outside attack.
Coach Vincent Wood removed all shooting restrictions from his players and gave the green light to let it fly.
"His starting five players were our only worry leading up to the game. Their center, Fuad Youwe has a 47 overall, their PF a 46, and their starting Guards 45s and their SF held a 44...but after those five they had mostly 36-39s...
"Thankfully I have the best staff in the world and we went over tape and came up with our own lineup and gameplan. We put our best eight guys in, our best shooters like Quincy getting extended minutes and we decided to make it a shootout, limiting drives into their dominant inside men. It was pretty close until the Marksman got going.
42 Points on 16/22 shootings, 8 of 12 from Three Point Range, Quincy has been absolutely phenomenal for us since we added him back in the start of the season.
What could be seen as more impressive is the timeframe in which Yggdrasik secured their birth in the next stages of the Regionals.
At midnight they played in their Rd of 16 Cup game at midnight. The last match of the round. Yggdrasil won.
8 hourz later at 8 am they won another League game, further entrenching themselves in 1st place even further.
And then another 8 hours later they faced GOLDEN ST in the Group C Final and won.
3 wins in 16 hours is no easy task. Especially when two of the games are for different tournaments with huge consequences.
But with a team like Coach Vincent Wood has, the Midguards arent afraid of consequences.
Stay tuned as the team looks to advance to the Cup Semi Finals and Regional Semis coming up shortly.
